Visitors to Rawcliffe Meadows in November and December 2012, when the cycle track through the Copse was passable, will have witnessed the latest in a series of bursts to the rising main between Clifton Hospital and the Rawcliffe sewage treatment plant. Unfortunately this is at least the third incident this year and Yorkshire Water are already investigating rerouting the main elsewhere and closing off the old one.
The work that is going on in the New Meadow is as a result of a leak earlier in the year, as are the two large piles of soil on the hard standing near the Cornfield gate. The plan was to remove the contaminated soil and recreate the Meadow again, with green hay and additional planting but flooding followed the initial recreation. This will carry on during 2013.
