The Birds are Gathering at Rawcliffe Meadows Cornfield

Despite the mild winter, numbers of birds are building-up in the Cornfield with a mixed flock of around 200 Tree Sparrows and Greenfinches. These are accompanied by at least 30 Reed Buntings and around 20 Yellowhammers with small numbers of Corn Buntings appearing in recent days. Other regular species include Pheasant, Stock Dove, Song Thrush, Redwing and Dunnock.

These photographers by Ripon-based wildlife photographer Whitfield Benson have been taken at the Cornfield. Please note that there is no public access but birds can be seen easily from the access track from Shipton Road allotments or from Rawcliffe Bar Country Park.

Exciting news! I work just up the road and will pop over one lunchtime to have a look. Never seen corn buntings clearly before, and yellowhammers are my favourite bird.
