With the help of the Yorkshire Mammal Group the Friends of Rawcliffe Meadows are holding a small mammal event on the meadows on Saturday 5th September 2015 from 9:30 am by the Reservoir Basin.
With the recent discovery of what appears to be a return of the water vole population and having historic records of common shrew, pygmy shrew, wood mouse, short-tailed vole, bank vole and harvest mice amongst others, and no recent recordings this should prove, we hope, to be an important event, as it will also enable us to use any data to develop the site management.
Much of the work is likely to take place within the Reservoir Basin (below the track from the allotments off Shipton Road) at the north of the site, so may be boggy in places and suitable footwear and appropriate clothing is advised. The cattle are still on site and so cow pats and ruts can make walking in the Basin squidgy.
