Friends of Rawcliffe Meadows Work Party Thursday 12th May from 18:30 at the Cornfield

Shepherds Needle

Shepherds Needle

Unfortunately due to flooding combined with the late Spring and the resultant poor plant development there’ll be little seed to harvest this month so we’ve quickly revised the work schedule.

A tedious but important job which needs doing is to hand-weed horsetail in the Cornfield Flower strip. Wellies probably advisory due to damp and sticky nature of the land getting to it, and a trowel or small similar tool.

The attached photo is of the rare Shepherds Needle plant flowering in the Cornfield Flower strip. The story of the strip and its other flowers can be found here – https://rawcliffemeadows.wordpress.com/2015/10/26/creating-a-haven-for-cornfield-flowers/

The Cornfield Flower strip is in the arable section of the Cornfield – meet at the gate to the Cornfield by the hard-standing down from the allotments.

PS The visit by Rachael Maskell MP and the discovery of a strange blue Tansy Beetle are on our FaceBook page https://www.facebook.com/rawcliffemeadows/
